Betsey's Rock n' Roll Outlaw Pages Version 2.0
If this site's Rockin', don't bother knockin', Come On In!
Sorry my site is the easy-cheesy variety,
but I'm kinda busy running a business right now
and don't have a lot of time to write html!
Plus, I have to spend a Great Deal of time in bars,
checking out all the bands so I can give ya good
info!
In case you haven't noticed, my site is about Rockin'
Out and having a high old time, primarily in my
stompin' grounds, Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota.
We have a great music scene here, and I like to let
people who aren't from here know where to visit when
they're in town.
I'm very big on local, original (not cover) bands, whether rock, alternative,
R&B, rockabilly or metal. The best bars in the twin towns
serve up a good mix of music, atmosphere, people watching,
dancing, and of course Good Cheap Drinks!
Those are my Criteria so let's get ON with it!
LONG LIVE ROCK N'ROLL!!!

Rock Yer Ass In The Twin Towns! TOP TEN BARS (In no particular order)
#1 BAR- Don't miss the Terminal Bar in lower
Northeast. Live music (as eclectic as it gets
in This town) every night.
Cover on Saturday night only and it's cheap!
Very laid back neighborhood bar, one of the
few places in town that will serve right up
until 1AM, and give ya time to drink it before
you gotta go!

#2 BAR- The Turf Club in St. Paul has great bands
every night except for Monday. In a 1940's
era nightclub, this place gets PACKED on the
weekends, so get there early if you wanna grab one
of those cozy booths.

#3 BAR- The Seventh Street Entry in Downtown
Minneapolis. It's big brother, First Avenue or the
"Mainroom" gets all the attention, but I'd rather
sit in the dark, vaguely sticky Entry and catch
some kickass local or national act. About the
size of a two-car garage, the entry has great
acoustics (yes, my friends, it gets LOUD!)
If you like your rock loud and fast, this is where
you're likely to find it. Especially if you're very
lucky and the Mighty Mofos happen to be playin'

#4 BAR Mayslacks in Northeast Minneapolis.
Bands on Thursday through Saturday nights. Try the roast beef sandwiches and dare to ask for extra garlic!
Small neighborhood bar, but great local acts
play here every week. The place gets crowded
early, too. Mostly college-aged crowd. Dance floor is
usually hoppin'.

#5 BAR- For the Rhythm & Blues crowd, this is
the place to go. Located on the West Bank in
Minneapolis, this is the biggest biker bar in town.
In the summer there's a sea of gleamin' chrome
down the three blocks in front of Whiskey Junction
and it's neighbors The Joint and The Cabooze.
This is a great place to do a little pub crawling
between the three bars. Cabooze has live national
and local bands, but cover can be kinda steep at times.

#6 BAR Blues Alley in Downtown Minneapolis.
Just a half-block's staggerin' distance from
the Entry, is a little Blues oasis. Kinda seedy,
like a blues bar should be. Dance floor gets
plenty of action, though. Game room in the back,
where, if you're lucky, you can get a table or
shoot some darts. Great local and national acts!

#7 BAR Uptown Bar & Grill in Uptown Minneapolis.
Featuring excellent food during the day and a wide
variety of local bands at night (mostly rock and
alternative) this is a good place to start the night
off. If you don't care for the music, try crossing
the street to

#8 BAR Famous Dave's BBQ and Blues where another
great mix of food and tunes is available. That's
about it for good live venues in Uptown, sadly...

#9 Bar Lee's Liquor Lounge just North of Downtown
Minneapolis. Another hot spot to dance the soles off
your shoes (assuming you can get onto the dance floor...)
Swing dance lessons on Tuesday nights, great local and
national swing and rock bands.

#10 Bar Mario's Keller Bar in Northeast Minneapolis.
Avoid it on the weekends (unless polka is your thang)
but there are good bands during the week, and swing
dancing on Thursdays and Sundays. German beers are
all there is on tap, try the Paulaner Hefe-Weizen
in one of their 2 litre boots!

FINDING THESE BARS WHEN YOU'RE HERE
Grab a City Pages or Pulse Weekly FREE! at any
corner store. All these bars have listings and
all have ads in City Pages, except the Terminal
which is only in Pulse. Then you can see who's
playing and how much cover charge is.
To get info online, go to citypages.com
(pulsetc.com wasn't quite done last time I looked)

Bands You Should Definitely Check Out
THE MIGHTY MOFOS This is the hardest-working band in Minneapolis. These guys serve up the loudest, absolutely American, dare ya not to shake yer ass, rock n' roll this side of the equator!
With brothers Ernie and Billy Batson fronting this monster, anything can happen. Their previous bands, King Kustom and the Cruisers and The Hypstyrz were both excellent, and once in a great while they'll do a set rotation of their 3 band lineups. They've been rockin' the twin towns for two decades! They play very occasionally at the Turf Club and in the 7th Street Entry, so catch em' if you can. If you like your rock balls-to-the-wall and seamless go check these guys out!

BEST FIGHT STORY Every Monday night at the Terminal (and at other venues around town) you can hear these guys deliver their energetic mix of danceable originals, with a few cool covers done up in their special sauce.

THE RANCHTONES Great mix of fun tunes, including an Iggy Pop cover with a peculiar country flavor, they meld so many styles you won't know what to call em' (except kickass!)

THE MAGNATONES If you like your rock fast, furious and LOUD, go see this band! If you're heading for the dance floor, better bring a towel.

JACK KNIFE 7 THE SHARPS When you're ready for some stompin' rockabilly, go see this band. From slow and easy to shake yer booty, they have it all. The best three-piece outfit in town for kicking up your heels. The stand-up bass player does a neat trick wrapping his leg around his bass while he's playing. Fun band!
